Concrete is more than a material….
It’s about life!Concrete is all around us, but most of us don't even notice that it's there. Today, our roads, sidewalks, bridges, and skyscrapers are made of concrete.
There’s three tons of it for every person on Earth, and over the next 40 years, we’ll use enough of it to build the equivalent of New York City every single month. The only resource we use more than concrete is water.
Cement is the glue that holds concrete together, and to make cement, limestone burns with other ingredients in a kiln at very high temperatures. One of the byproducts of that process is carbon dioxide, or CO2. For every ton of cement that's manufactured, almost one ton of CO2 is emitted into the atmosphere.
As a result, the cement industry is the second-largest industrial emitter of CO2 (after steel industry), responsible for 8% of all carbon emissions worldwide. If we're going to solve global warming, innovation in cement production is absolutely necessary.
The global cement and concrete association (GCCA) set a roadmap for Net Zero Concrete by 2050. This task would be achieved through the collective commitment of the world’s leading cement and concrete companies to fully contribute to delivering a sustainable future for the built environment
Currently, the world produces 4.4 Billion-ton of cement annually and 14 billion M3 concrete in 2020, but that number is expected to rise to over 5.5 billion tons of cement and 56 billion M3 concrete by 2050.
In 2020 14.0 billion m^3 Concrete production globally By 2050 56.0 billion m^3 Concrete production globally Source
For applying this amount of concrete, more than 5,600 billion litres of water resources is used per year for making and 7 days after for curing concrete to achieve 80% compressive strength.
This amount of water can be wisely used to irrigate 2,200 million trees or to irrigate 1.1 million acres of agricultural crops per year.
What we offer
EcoStruct provides regular assessments of the scientific basis of concrete industry, its impacts, future innovations, and options for sustainability.
GEO PLUS CEMENT
A Superior SolutionA one-part geopolymer cement where the activators are in solid form. A novel alternative compared to conventional solutions which only be necessary to add water to the powder mixture to obtain the geopolymer paste similar to Portland cement in ambient temperature, but environmentally and economically feasible cement with higher durability and strength than conventional Portland cement.
